A MEME which mocks a lack of parking at Laverton railway station has attracted hundreds of internet fans.

The meme, which has been posted on the popular Facebook site, ‘Western Suburbs Memes (Melbourne)’ features a photo of the station’s sign.

The meme reads, ‘6.30 in the morning? Have to park on nature strip’.

More than 750 people have ‘liked’ the meme which was created by a Facebook User named Brett Smolski.

Star has published several articles about the lack of car parks at Laverton station, where most of the 1500-plus spots fill up by 7am on a weekday.

During last year, police began to crack down on cars parked in non-designated spots in and around the station, issuing warnings to vehicles left on nature-strips, bike lanes and footpaths.

Also during 2012, Hobsons Bay City Council asked the State Government to build a multi-storey car park near the station, but the request was refused.

The Facebook meme has attracted several comments about the parking situation at Laverton.

“They really need to do something about this. IT’S A JOKE!!!” one commuter wrote.

Many people said Laverton station was overcrowded because it was in Zone 1, and had cheaper tickets prices than Hoppers Crossing and Werribee – which are further up the line in Zone 2.

“They also come because the parking at Hoppers and Werribee is pathetic… the extra time and money you spend on fuel getting to Laverton via the freeway or that goat track called Sayers Rd ends up negating most of your ticket savings anyway,” another Facebook user posted.
