THE general manager of Spotswood’s iconic Scienceworks museum is set to retire.
Last week, Genevieve Fahey announced her retirement after more than 25 years with Museum Victoria.
Ms Fahey said she would relocate to Queensland to “spend more time with her family and enjoy new challenges”.
Ms Fahey has been the manager of Scienceworks for the past decade.
Before then, in 1988 she joined the Museum Victoria team which developed plans for a new science and technology museum.
After managing one of the first Scienceworks’ exhibitions during 1992, she worked in various roles at the museum until becoming general manager.
Ms Fahey said her time at Scienceworks has been far more than a job.
“It has been hugely rewarding to be part of an organisation committed to providing Victorians with a memorable insight into the science and technology in their everyday lives,” she said.
“We have had so many wonderful exhibitions and programs here over the years and we are now welcoming parents that visited here as children.”
During Ms Fahey’s time at the museum, the ‘Star Wars’, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Wallace and Gromit exhibitions were staged.
Another one of her achievements was helping to create a temporary Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service quarantine facility for a 1998 spider exhibition.
Museum Victoria CEO Patrick Greene said Ms Fahey would be “keenly missed” at Scienceworks.
“Her passion and commitment has been the driving force behind Scienceworks’ continuous growth into an award winning destination for Victorian families and schools,” he said.
Ms Fahey will finish at Scienceworks at the end of this month.
Museum Victoria is has begun the recruitment process for a new general manager.
