FOUR teenagers from the Williamstown band, Small Print, have a big future ahead of them.
In August last year, Small Print formed a week before the FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands Competition began in Hobsons Bay.
The band – consisting of vocalist Matt, keyboardist Paris, drummer Anastasia and guitarist Mike – received first place at the event.
Against other 250 bands in the state, they continued winning their way through higher levels of the contest and are now set to play in the Victorian finals.
The finals will be on at the Push Over Festival, staged in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on 11 March.
Small Print met at Williamstown High School, where they are all pupils.
“We have the groove and edge of a rap song with the flow of a rock song,” Matt said.
The 17-year-old said the band wrote their own songs and also played covers.
The Small Print members cited Rage Against The Machine, the Hilltop Hoods, the Beastie Boys, Christine Aguilera and Liza Minnelli as their musical influences.
“Before we come up with the right name for a song we give them all temporary names which all relate to fruit and vegetables,” Mike said.
The band members said they did not expect to come first at any of the FReeZA events.
“The other bands were so intimidating – they all had EPs, Facbooks and were generally older than us,” Anastasia said.
However the talented teenagers said they enjoyed performing on stage together and did not get nervous beforehand.
“The crowd’s reaction is the best bit,” Paris said.
