One big passion for painting

NEWPORT artist Shelly Fisher admits she has an addiction, a good one though.
Mrs Fisher said even after she puts down a brush painting was always on her mind.
“It’s a real passion, you’re not always doing it, but you’re always thinking about it,” Mrs Fisher said.
Mrs Fisher started painting more than 25 years ago and dabbles in most artistic mediums including oil, pastel and water colour, but she prefers to paint form life.
“When I started painting, I learnt from drawing life objects like still life flowers,” Mrs Fisher said.
“You get back into it and it gets a hold of you and then you can’t let it go.”
Mrs Shirley’s work has been featured in a number of exhibitions including the Hobsons Bay art show held in the Williamstown town hall where she was awarded the prize for the best Hobsons Bay scene. She is also a regular artists featured at The Pastoral Society of Victoria Australia and Victorian Art Society exhibitions held throughout the year.
“What inspires me to paint a subject or something is the light, I’m inspired by the light, like impressionist painting.”
Her true inspiration for her paintings comes from being surrounded by her real-life canvass.
“You get away from day to day things and you just paint. It’s very inspiring to be onsite and paint.”
“I feel very lucky that I’ve got that passion to do something.”
“It’s a good addiction. You end up with a lot of paintings.”
