The paper calls for an increase to employment and business development to match the growing workforce in the west.
The discussion paper was released to prompt debate around the challenges and ideas for
Melbourne’s future.
The discussion paper is the precursor to the yet to be released Metropolitan Planning Strategy (MPS).
The MPS will guide Melbourne’s development for the next 40 years.
According to Hobsons Bay City Council’s submission, a whole of government approach is required to successfully implement the MPS.
Among the points raised in the plan is the need for improved linkages, connectivity and transport.
According to the plan the connectivity of Melbourne’s transport linkages needs to be improved.
It also highlights the need for environmental resilience and for discussion on how climate change impacts land use and planning.
The council is also supporting a combined position statement on the draft strategy prepared by the western region councils.
