MEMBERS of the Altona Little Athletics Centre proved they have what it takes to match it with some of the state’s best athletes. Competing at the Victorian Little Athletics Track and Field Championships in Bendigo late last month, the club came home with an impressive tally of six gold medals, two silver and two bronze.
Brodie Hicks was outstanding in his performances during the championships, taking gold in the Under-10 Boys’ 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m events.
He also set new state records in the 200m and 400m, breaking the old times which had stood for 17 years.
The good results didn’t stop there for the club with Matthew Hussey taking gold in the 800m and 1500m, Boys-Under-12 age group.
In the Under-10 Girls, Megan Whatman and Zoe Woods each won a silver and a bronze medal.
Altona Athletics Centre team manager Gary Whatman was rapt with the results.
“This was a fantastic result for our centre and really shows the quality of athletes we have in the Hobsons Bay area and the benefit for young athletes of running on grass,” he said.
