WILLIAMSTOWN Musical Theatre Company is ready to dazzle audiences with their latest bright and sophisticated production.
Sweet Charity opens for a limited season on Friday 3 May and plays until Saturday 18 May at the Williamstown Mechanics Institute.
The production tells the story of an optimistic young woman, Charity, who not only wears her heart on her sleeve; she’s had it tattooed to her arm.
Charity sings, dances, laughs, and cries her way through a long list of romances with the “animal magnetism” hero, the “ultra-chic continental” hero, and the impossible-to-believe, he’s-better-than-nothing” type hero.
The large ensemble cast includes Williamstown’s very own Martin Quinn and Altona Meadows rising star’s Blake Testro and Nicole Black.
One of the show’s director’s Samantha Heskett said Charity’s story was relatable to audiences 50 years after it was flung into the stratosphere, and that’s what made it great.
“We all want a little bit of what Charity has got,” Ms Heskett said.
“Charity has got the innocence of a child. She can see the good in all people, even those who can’t see it in themselves. Charity has an infectious smile and an ability to accept people without judgement, even if this is not reciprocated.”
The show, as well as being renowned as a comedy includes musical numbers such as Big Spender, If my friends could see me now, There’s gotta be something better than this and The Rhythm of Life.
Tickets are available online by visiting WMTC’s website or by calling 1300 881 545.
