A RAPPER from the Western Suburbs has made a loud noise in the Melbourne hip-hop scene and it’s only going to get louder.
Siliva Kafovalu, a 25-year-old Australian/Tongan rapper, has worked hard over the last two years to make his verses heard – and it’s paying off.
The passionate rapper is making a buzz in the Melbourne hip-hop scene and isn’t afraid to push boundaries and speak his mind.
“I’ve come to conclusion I’m a good rapper, I feel like I don’t have to prove anything so write what I want.”
Siliva is currently working on his second mix tape which will feature various artists in Australia’s hip-hop scene, and his own EP.
He admits he didn’t think his career would take-off so quickly but has a modest dream to one day be Australia’s top hip-hop artist.
“When I start to focus all my energy I seem to get rewards from it.”
Siliva started rapping and performing at venues at the age of 16, but took a break to “make a few mistakes” as he calls it before he was ready to make his comeback.
As a young skateboarding juvenile he and his siblings grew up with their single mother in a harsh environment.
The family moved to the western suburbs of Altona Meadows and then Laverton in his teens.
He found his love of music listening to various genres including rock, grunge and hip-hop and described his own style as an “honest interpretation” of his life and admits “it’s wild”.
“I rap about all the stuff that’s been around me or in front of me.”
Last year he met Daniel Merriweather, an Australian R&B recording artist, who has since mentored and co-signed Siliva, he has also worked with well-known Australian rapper 360.
