Soaking up market surrounds

THE Substation in Newport will come alive with an eclectic mix of art stalls, folk and great surrounds when it hosts its monthly artists’ market.
Held on the first Sunday of the month, The Substations’ June market will feature colourful ceramics by Blackseed Ceramics; kiln-formed Venetian glass by local designer Moretti and acrylic paintings by local artist Patrick Brady.
Other products showcased include handmade jewellery and accessories, winter woollies and beautifully made plush toys.
“The venue provides our patronage with a dynamic atmosphere with room to explore or relax while celebrating some of Melbourne’s best makers”, The Substation director Jeremy Gaden said.
The Substation has also extended its food and beverage offerings to suit the cool, winter weather.
On offer will be hearty soup, hot pastries, bakery delights and specially brewed mulled wine.
Performances by the Newport Fiddle and Folk Club will fill the space with a vibrant atmosphere juxtaposed with the aroma of coffee and mulled wine, enticing patrons to soak up the rich surrounds.
Not only for the inner west side of Melbourne, The Substation Artists’ Market is quickly becoming known as one of Melbourne’s top markets and another much-needed and loved cultural place in this talented city.
The next market will be held on 2 June from 10am to 3pm at The Substation, 1 Market St, Newport.
