A BRILLIANT last quarter carried Williamstown to an impressive 32-point win against the Northern Blues in the Victorian Football League on Saturday. The Seagulls may have been the favourites going into the match however, it was anything but easy as Northern kicked two opening quarter goals to take a six point lead into the first break.
Williamstown managed to hit back in the second quarter to gain the lead heading into half-time.
Despite having their noses in front, nothing could separate the two sides with goals becoming increasingly hard to come by.
Finally the Seagulls were able to break the shackles in the final term and the game became wide open.
Williamstown booted six final quarter goals to secure the 12.12 (84) to 7.10 (52) win.
Tory Dickson was a standout for the Seagulls, booting four goals on a day where majors were hard to come by.
He was just pipped for best on ground honours by Mitch Wallis who was also impressive.
Of the Williamstown listed players, Willie Wheeler, Leigh Masters and Brent Prismall were among the best.
For the Blues, Kane Lambert and Luke Mitchell kicked two goals each while Matthew Watson and Tom Bell pushed their case for senior selection with solid games.
Saturday’s result sees Williamstown maintain its place in the VFL’s top four with an impressive 7-3 win/loss record for the season.
The Seagulls are behind only Box Hill and Geelong which occupy positions one and two on the ladder respectively.
In what will be a blockbuster round 12 clash, Williamstown will take on Box Hill this Sunday.
