DAZZLING dresses, fabulous frocks and glamourous gowns created by St Albans Secondary College students will be shown at the Fashion Awards Australia on 13 September.
Year 12 students, Stephanie Lemus and Tuan Pham, are designing five or six outfits each for the annual awards show.
The award’s gala finale presentation, featuring secondary student, TAFE and emerging designers, will be staged at the Lakeside Banquet and Convention Centre in Taylors Lakes.
At last year’s awards, Tuan was crowned 2012 Young Designer of the Year.
Stephanie, now 17, placed first in the daywear section and second in the calico category.
“I like the self-expression and see it as art, not just fashion,” Tuan said.
At 18 years old, he already has plans to open a fashion house brand in Australia and overseas.
Both Stephanie and Taun said they admired famous designers Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano.
“We are inspired by everything around us,” Stephanie said.
“It feels like a hobby, it’s not like something you have to work on – it is something I enjoy.”
Taun and Stephanie encouraged other young people to enter Fashion Awards Australia.
They have been working on their own designs for several months now.
Stephanie said seeing a finished garment on the catwalk was worth all the effort.
“It’s the best feeling and you feel really proud,” Stephanie said.
Both Taun and Stephanie thanked their teachers Michael Bowden and Nick D’Aglas for their advice and assistance during the past few years.
