THE POPULAR red haired orphan will take centre stage when the Williamstown Musical Theatre Company (WMTC) presents its production of Annie.
Production manager Marco Fusco said with such a high number of girls auditioning for shows, the classic was a logical choice for the company.
The production attracted more than 80 auditions and the result according to Mr Fusco is a phenomenal performance by a very talented bunch of kids.
“They can expect an absolutely phenomenal cast.”
Mr Fusco went as fara as saying the performances outdid an adult cast.
The shows star Annie, played by Belinda Barichello, is fresh from her performance in the Melbourne production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Mr Fusco said Annie was a golden oldie, and as such they had not strayed far from its original roots.
“We’re not reinventing the wheel, staying quite true to the style of show which is important because it’s such a classic.”
Now in its third year, the production is being presented by WMTC Inc’s junior program, which Mr Fusco is very excited to present.
“It’s a very exciting thing for us and will foster new talent and raise the next generation of performers.”
The junior program is open to young performers aged between 8-18 years old and aims to provide them with high quality creative learning experiences in the theatre arts.
Annie will play at the Williamstown Mechanic Institute from the 9 to 18 August. Standard adult tickets $32.
