TWO female students from Bayside P-12 College got a taste of life in the defence force recently and discovered future career prospects.
Year 10 students Lisa Price and Ellie Carnoy recently completed two weeks of work experience at the Maygar Barracks in Broadmeadows.
The girls said they returned to school keener than ever to pursue career options in the Defence Force.
The schools Year 10 careers/pathways co-ordinator Trudi Suhren said the work experience program was an integral part of the careers program at Bayside P-12 College.
She said all of the schools Year 10 students undertook at least one week during the year.
“We have strong links with the local business community and a number of large organisations who continually support our program and allow us to offer our students a diverse range of work experience opportunities,” she said.
This year, the school had students working with local plumbers, electricians, barristers in a city law firm and a team of research scientists at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Research Hospital.
“Wherever students choose to do their work placement, it is always worthwhile and of great benefit to their career development.”
“Often they go off rather nervously, but always come back excited to tell us all about their experiences.”
