STUDENTS from Newport Lakes Primary School will see their work on the big screen when the school hosts its annual Short Film Festival.
This Thursday the school will hold their second annual Short Film festival which will celebrate the work of the grade 3/4 students.
Teacher Mat Williamson said the students have been involved in all aspects of production from brainstorming, planning and storyboarding to acting filming and editing over the past 10 weeks.
“The result is 17 brilliant short films,” he said.
Mr Williamson said the project is part of the schools literacy program and explores different forms of storytelling.
“We wanted to do something exciting and innovative to get the kids engaged in school and get them excited.”
He said as well as the literacy program, the school’s inquiry program encouraged students to research and explore topical world issues and take positive action.
This year each student was asked to research and produce a short film that explores sustainability with each film needing to include the line ‘I live here so look after it’.
Mr Williamson said the students experienced the complete film-making process from creating production companies, brainstorming ideas and pitching those ideas to the “big bosses” to get the green light before production.
“They learnt about thinks like camera angles, colour angles and how to influence the viewer.”
Grade three student Levi Orkin’s team produced a film called ‘Footy Break’ that encouraged young footy fans to conserve power and play outside.
“I liked how everyone got to say two lines and got to participate,” Levi said.
The Hollywood themed night, decked out with a red carpet and paparazzi, will showcase the students’ work for their families and friends this Thursday.
