THE residents of an Altona Meadows nursing home have taken ordinary objects and turned them into intriguing works of art.
An exhibition of decorated glass bottles made by the residents of Benetas St George’s Nursing Home in Altona Meadows will be on display at the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre from 15 to 29 October, from 10am to 4pm.
More than 25 bottles have been artistically transformed from the ordinary into the extraordinary by a group of people, many of whom recently discovered their artistic endeavours.
“We have all heard about stages of human existence – at the Louis Joel Centre we felt that a display of these beautiful works could only be termed ‘The Glass Age’,” Louis Joel Centre manager Jill Bilston said.
Ms Bilston said the exhibition represents an age through which we will all someday travel and we can only hope to have the opportunity to be this creative.
The residents were supported by St George’s staff, who were pleasantly surprised by the group’s new found talents.
Lifestyle assistant Remmi Kaur said the exhibition was part of senior’s month that is being celebrated throughout October.
Ms Kaur said the exercise was an opportunity for residents to express themselves and have fun.
“We wanted to make them feel important,” she said.
The community are invited to the launch of the exhibition on Tuesday 15 October. It will also be an opportunity to meet some of the talented artists.
