HOBSON’S Bay mayor Angela Altair has welcomed talks between the Victorian Premier Denis
Napthine and Toyota executives at the company’s Japanese headquarters.
Toyota has requested more State and Federal government assistance to keep the Altona plant viable.
“I would urge the State and Federal governments to offer any assistance they can to help secure the future of our local car industry and local jobs,” Cr Altair said.
Cr Altair said Toyota is a valued corporate citizen, employing 3300 people at its Altona plant and any initiative that will improve the future stability of that site would be well received by Hobsons Bay and Melbourne’s West.
“With news last week that Toyota is offering up to 100 voluntary redundancies, these talks come at a crucial time.”
Hobsons Bay Councillors and senior council officers toured the Altona plant last week.
