TRANSITION Hobsons Bay is ready for strawberry season with the public invited to pick the berry best at a certified organic strawberry farm.
The community organisation is holding its third annual strawberry run at Ladybird Organics, Melbourne’s only certified organic strawberry farm located in Keilor.
Member Kate Leslie said the group will wait for a run of sunny days and then carpool to the family owned and run farm to pick and enjoy the delicious seasonal fruit.
“We’re sourcing organic strawberries locally and are able to feast on what is super seasonal,” she said.
“It’s nice to have (an event) that is weather dependent, it puts you in touch with the season and weather.”
Kate said they were expecting a strong crowd of strawberry pickers, with three carloads of eager pickers involved last year.
“It will grow the community by organising to carpool,” she said.
“It’s strawberries, doesn’t everyone like strawberries?”
Kate said hand picking the ripe fruit was a fun and a cost-effective day for the whole family.
“It’s a nice opportunity to meet some great people,” she said.
