ALTONA residents are gearing up for an unforgettable Australia Day Celebration over the weekend.
Australia Day in Altona has fast become a popular annual event and will be held again this Sunday at Logan Reserve and the Altona Foreshore.
Organised by the Altona Traders and sponsored by the Altona Community Bank, the event will be the only community Australia Day event in Hobsons Bay.
The day will have activities for everyone to enjoy including a live band, junior and senior triathlons, market stalls, children’s workshops and Cobb &Co coach rides amongst other activities showcasing everything Altona has to offer.
Altona Community Bank marketing co-ordinator Sarah Stapleton said the Community Bank was proud to sponsor the fireworks display and popular annual Australia Day Family Sand Sculpture competition on Altona Beach.
“We have two sessions on beautiful Altona beach and families can come down and get creative and build something exciting,” Ms Stapleton said.
“We’ve had some amazing works in previous years including tall ships, lots of Australia Day flags and sea creatures.”
The Family Sand Sculpture Competition prizes will be awarded to the most imaginative teams per session with $150, $75 and $25 Altona Community Bank accounts for the first, second and third prize winning teams respectively.
The two competition sessions will be held from 11am-noon and another from 1pm-2pm. Registration forms are available from the Altona Community Bank and numbers are limited so get in fast.
“The Community Bank is owned by the community, our profits go back into the community so we like to do things for the whole community to enjoy and get the community together,” Ms Stapleton said.
During the past 13 years Altona, Point Cook and Laverton/Altona Meadows Community Bank branches have injected more than $2.7 million into their communities.
