WHAT started as a bed time story for one little girl has now become a children’s book for all.
At only 12 years of age, Williamstown resident Leyla Simone has published her very first book.
Leyla’s imagination and storytelling at bed time inspired the book called Adventures of Lollipop, which will soon be available at selected local book stores in Yarraville and will be donated to libraries across Hobsons Bay.
The book is about a colourful unisus, a cross between a unicorn and Pegasus, who goes on a journey to find her true colour.
“I loved horses and Pegasus and unicorns so I decided to make it into one character and make it into a story with a big adventure with flying and magic in a mythical world,” Leyla said.
“And I wanted to make it into a book so everyone could read it because it was a really interesting story,” she said.
Leyla said the character, Lollipop, reflected her as she too was going on her own journey.
“I’m on my journey, I’m going to high school this year and I’m going to have new adventures as I grow up,” she said. “And I’m finding my inner self.”
Leyla’s mother Jade said the story was based on the Charka System, the seven energy senses of the body, and would introduce children to learning about the physical, spiritual and energetic dynamics of the body.
“It’s a spiritual journey about finding yourself and who you are on the inside as a person, and the colour is the energy centre of your body,” she said.
“Leyla’s a very well rounded, really calm and collected kind of a 12 year old and she has a really good understanding of what’s going and how to deal with things,” she said.
“This lovely pop character is basically a representation of her.”
