POLICE impounded two cars within 24 hours last week after burnouts were done right in front of them on two separate occasions, one with a baby in the back seat.
Members from the Heavy Vehicle Unit intercepted a car at around 2.40pm on Monday on Bulmans Road after the driver was observed doing a burnout in front of a patrol car in Melton West.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said the 26-year-old male driver also returned a positive Preliminary Oral Fluid Test and refused to accompany police for an Oral Fluid Test.
“The man, from Hoppers Crossing, had his vehicle impounded on the spot and is expected to be charged on summons for a number of traffic related offences,” the spokesperson said.
In another incident, Transit police in Altona intercepted a vehicle after it was observed doing a burnout before leaving a car park on The Esplanade.
When police approached the car to speak with the driver, they noticed a six-month old baby sitting in a car seat in the back seat. The man was also travelling with his partner.
The 30-year-old Kingsbury man’s car was impounded for 30 days and he was expected to be charged on summons with traffic related offences.
