YOUNG photography enthusiasts have until the end of this month to grab their cameras and smart phones and capture a unique image and maybe even a great prize.
Now in its fourth year, the annual Pixel8 competition is open to anyone between 12 and 18 who lives, works or studies in Hobsons Bay.
Mayor Sandra Wilson said taking photos was a great way to showcase the municipality and the different ways people view the area.
“Everyone views their surrounds with a unique perspective and Pixel8 challenges young people to capture this view,” Cr Wilson said.
“We want to see obscure or unusual places, original viewpoints, photos that capture something unique, different or beautiful about Hobsons Bay.”
The project is co-ordinated by Hobsons Bay City Council in partnership with Victoria Police Hobsons Bay Police Service Area.
Police Inspector Richard Paterson, who will be one of the competition’s judges, said Pixel8 was available to everyone whether they owned a smart phone, point and shoot camera, or SLR.
“Creativity is actively encouraged. While some will want to take a photo of their favourite landscape, others may want to build their own montages or play around in Photoshop,” Insp Paterson said.
Winners of the first prize will receive a Canon 1100DTKIS EOS 10.1MP SLR with twin lens kit, three second prizes of a Panasonic 14 MP Lumix TZ30 digital point and shoot camera are also up for grabs. The school with the most entrants will receive a $500 cheque.
The winning photos will be framed and displayed in a local police station and featured on the Airtime flags at the Altona Meadows Skate Park later this year.
