LAURIETON’S King of the Mountain fun run has been recognised in NSW Parliament.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams used a speech in parliament to praise the efforts of everyone involved in the fund-raising event, held on 18 August.
“The 2013 King of the Mountain fun run up North Brother Mountain at Laurieton, which has some of the most spectacular views on the NSW coast, was a fund-raiser for the Camden Haven Surf Life Saving Club,” Mrs Williams told her peers.
“I note that it was called a fun run, but some people took it much more seriously than others. That is not surprising because a substantial amount of prizemoney was up for grabs.
“I walked because there simply was no way I was fit enough to run to the top of the mountain. I admit that the oldest competitor, aged 76, passed me on the way up.
“The event attracted people from all over the Mid North Coast and some competitors came from Sydney.”
Mrs Williams acknowledged the winners of the event, while also thanking the many volunteers who helped out on the day.
“I acknowledge the many surf club volunteers who, importantly, cooked the barbecue when we finished, and volunteers from Port Macquarie Triathlon Club and Port Macquarie Ironman Organising Committee for their logistics assistance on the day,” the MP said.
