SURF Life Saving NSW and the wider Port Macquarie community will benefit from the development of a new operations centre which will provide greater sporting, training and education opportunities.
Acting Premier and Oxley MP Andrew Stoner and Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams have announced Surf Life Saving NSW has been successful in its application for funding under the ClubGRANTS category three scheme.
“The NSW Government is providing $1,051,245 towards this project to construct a three-storey operations centre which will include a secure warehouse for sport equipment, meeting rooms and a training area for up to 80 people,” Mr Stoner said.
“The facility will provide pathways for youth to enhance participation levels in sport and recreation activities on the Mid North Coast.”
Mrs Williams said the facility would support the North Coast Regional Academy of Sport SLS Program.
“The program provides pathways for athletes in the Mid North Coast region, who often don’t get the same opportunities as Sydney members, to participate in SLS activities,” she said.
“This facility will inject new life into the local community and will provide another avenue for athletes as well as the wider community to interact and engage in sporting activities.”
Surf Life Saving NSW president Tony Haven said the organisation was extremely excited about the announcement of funding to support a new operations centre at Port Macquarie.
“Locating a multi-purpose operations facility at Port Macquarie will give regional athletes, coaches and development programs much needed support, increasing participation in Surf Life Saving activities away from the major metropolitan centres,” Mr Haven said.
“When complete this new facility will provide a springboard for regional sport and recreation, boost participation in volunteering, lifesaving activities and strengthen our local communities.
“We are grateful for the support of the NSW Government, through the ClubGRANTS program, to give our regional volunteers and athletes some of the same development opportunities their city counterparts enjoy.”
