AN informative evening for health professionals and the public will be held on Friday 16 May at the Westport Club in Port Macquarie.
An initiative of the Lions NSW-ACT Save Sight and Public Health Care Foundations, the Lions Save Sight Community Challenge raises funds for the Save Sight and Eye Health Institute and the Lions Eye Bank, both of which are housed at the Sydney Hospital in Macquarie Street, Sydney.
Guest speaker for the evening will be Professor Peter McCluskey, who will talk about every-day eye problems in addition to developments and practises in eye research.
As the director of the Save Sight Institute at Sydney Eye Hospital and Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology at Sydney University, Professor McCluskey’s 25 years of experience in eye research and treatment offers considerable scope for discussion.
Professor McCluskey specialises in vision-threatening chronic inflammatory eye disease. His laboratory research focuses on mediators of this form of eye disease and he has on-going clinical and laboratory collaborations in the UK, New Zealand, Vietnam and the US.
A spokesperson for Lions said the evening would be a unique opportunity for Port Macquarie residents to meet and learn from a world-class health professional.
“All funds raised will go to the Save Sight Institute and Lions Eye Bank on behalf of Local Community Challenge Candidate Mrs Lynne Tubb,” he said.
The evening will start at 6.30pm so audience members can meet Professor McCluskey before a 7pm commencement of the evening’s program.
The cost is $55 a head. Contact Lions member Neal Tubb for tickets on 0427 351 647.
