Conductor James Hannah retires

Sinfonia's retiring conductor James Hannah with Sinfonia president Anne-Marie Barnett.

THE Sinfonia June series of concerts certainly hit the right note with music lovers with the orchestra playing to packed houses in Port Macquarie, Forster and Taree.
The June series marked the retirement of honorary conductor James Hannah, who planned the series.
James received a standing ovation after some of his favourites such as Thunder and Lightning Polka.
Other highlights included Trumpets Two – performed by the local 2013 winner of the Sinfonia-James Hannah Scholarship, Isaac Bruggeman – and Romance – performed on violin by the youngest member of the orchestra, 11-year-old Abigail French.
As a special treat to open the Manning Winter Festival in Taree, Sinfonia guest Sydney-based cellist Michael Bardon also joined the orchestra.
The concerts were a fitting send off for James, who has led the orchestra for over eight years and 50 concerts during that time.
Assistant conductor Iain Pole will now take over the baton until a full-time honorary conductor is appointed.
Inquiries regarding Sinfonia should be directed to president Anne-Marie on 0428 509 024.
