The kindest cut

Supporting National Desexing Month: Bonny Hills Vet clinic practice manager Cheranne Garcia with Eve, a border collie puppy.

THE Port Macquarie branch of the RSPCA has weighed in to promote National Desexing Month locally.
The RSPCA has decided to pay for 75 dogs or cats to desexed, which will be free to the owners of the pets.
The offer, run solely by the Port Macquarie branch, began yesterday, and will be capped at 75. Owners can have up to two pets desexed and it is not means tested.
RSPCA spokesperson Jackianne Wright said the local branch had never carried out a desexing promotion on this scale before.
“I made the decision because we have raised enough funds to be able to put it back into the local community,” she said.
“It was pure coincidence that we received the email notifying us of National Desex Month four days after a special executive branch meeting to discuss how we could best spend the funds available.
“We are hoping in a small way to help break the cycle of unwanted companion puppies, kittens, dogs and cats.”
Meanwhile, the Bonny Hills Vet Clinic has been inundated with desexing bookings since it was made public it was supporting National Desexing Month by offering a 25 per cent discount on desexing during July.
