Volunteer Message from Federal Lyne MP David Gillespie
THIS year marks the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week – a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the contribution and work of our volunteers in the community.
There are so many agencies, organisations and institutions in our society that simply would not be able to deliver the services they provide without the valuable contribution and commitment of volunteers.
Around seven-million Australians volunteer themselves to community service work each year.
Whether it is the State Emergency Services, Rural Fire Service, aged care social activities, sporting club administration, charity fundraisers, Landcare or Clean Australia Day – our community relies a great deal on the help of volunteers.
For many volunteers, contributing some of their spare time to help deliver a community service is a significant reward in itself because the outcomes they help to deliver give them a sense of pride and achievement.
There are many local community groups and organisations that need more volunteers. I’d encourage people in the community who may have a small amount of time to spare, to volunteer themselves for a local charity, community, agency or sporting group.
In this 25th year of National Volunteer Week, we should acknowledge and thank our volunteers for the wonderful work they do in our community.
