THOSE who love opera are in for a real treat later this year.
The Majestic Cinema in Port Macquarie has a special series of events planned from July to October.
The Metropolitan Opera Winter Series will be showcased on cinema screens, bringing the decadence of New York’s world-famous theatrical venue to the regional centres of Australia in a great display of what the renovated cinema complex is able to present.
The season will kick off on Saturday 26 July with Guiseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto.
This will screen at 1.55pm, but the fun will kick off at 1.15pm with nibbles and tastings from Black Duck Brewery and Bago Vineyard.
Tickets cost $28 for adults, $22 concession and movie-club members.
Others in the series include Otello on 16 and 17 August, The Enchanted Island on 13 and 14 September and Romeo and Juliette on 11 and 12 October.
The Metropolitan Opera is a world-class company based in New York, out of the famous Met Opera House in the Lincoln Centre, and this winter series showcases some of the company’s most acclaimed performances.
Other special events planned for the cinema include the inaugural Australian Film Festival in August, The Travelling Film Festival is back in October and National Theatre live performances.
