Uniforms worn with pride

YEAR 11 students at Westport High School have embraced their new uniform enthusiastically.
They designed the uniforms themselves and were happy to pay the $90 to feel part of their cohort and to demonstrate pride in their school.
The new jackets arrived last week just in time to ward off some cooler winter weather.
Kirsty Simpson, the Year 11 adviser, said the students will get two cold seasons’ wear out of them.
“Normally we would order the Year 12 jackets for the Year 11 students closer to the end of the year,” Ms Simpson said.
“This year we thought we’d be more practical and allow them mid year.
“This gives the students more time to wear them and that sense of being seniors and school leaders earlier.
“The fact that they like them so much is the key to getting students to wear a school uniform.
“Year 11 students like the fact that they are different in colour and design from the Year 12 jackets, too,” Ms Simpson added.
