Fortune favours the council bold

IF you like the idea of a six-figure salary, read on to find out more about a local position vacant – but, be warned, it’s not a job for the faint-hearted.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has taken the next step in its hunt for a new general manager, advertising the position nationally. The closing date for applications will be Tuesday 27 May through Eather Recruitment.
The contract of council’s former general manager Tony Hayward was terminated at an extraordinary meeting in February this year with Craig Swift-McNair appointed to the position of acting general manager.
Cr Besseling said the successful applicant would help drive a significant reform agenda and – at times – make some difficult decisions in working towards the goal of making Port Macquarie-Hastings Council the best regional council in NSW.
He said the council was seeking someone with a very specific set of skills and leadership capabilities to help position the organisation where the council and the community needs it to be.
“We are making no secret of the fact that there are challenges ahead,” Cr Besseling said.
“This is about finding the right person to help tackle those challenges and to guide the council through a significant period of change.”
Cr Besseling said he was very pleased with the way councillors and council staff had been ‘getting on with the job’ in recent months.
He said the council had been moving in the right direction thanks to the professionalism of councillors and council staff.
