Politicians pleasing the business community

Anybody complaining about climate change, marine parks, the cost of utilities, parking meters, lack of infrastructure, crowded beaches, etc, should realise that it is all related back to one single factor — population growth.

Population increase suits politicians wanting to please the business community now, by doing something, the full cost of which will only emerge over the next 10, 15 or 20 years.

A case in point is our base hospital which services 75,000 people in the region, with three pods. There is going to be a fourth pod built and our population is going to double.

If our population stabilised at 75,000 with a new pod, then we might see improved waiting times for emergency, better doctor/nurse-to-patient ratios, shorter wait times for elective surgery, better services.

Doubling our population will mean we will have the same problems we presently have on a larger scale and the need to expand the hospital even further.

At least the politicians can say they did what the business council wanted by doubling our population!
