FOLLOWING the success of the first Cabarita Youth Service Body Board Competition in July the young competitors are set to do it all again this weekend.
Simon Kelly, CYS Youth Worker, was very pleased with the turnout for the inaugural event.
“We are doing it again, this time on 8 September,” he said.
“Anyone interested in joining the competition can call me for more details; otherwise we will be meeting behind Cabarita Meats/7 to 7 (car park) at 7am”.
“I am very confident we will get another great turnout. The weather last time was fantastic, let’s hope for the same.”
Simon and his wife catered for the event by making healthy salad sandwiches for the kids that came along to compete and watch.
“Oscar Clark took some amazing photos, a true up and coming photographer in the making, we are really grateful to have him as part of CYS,” he said.
“There is so much untapped talent around Cabarita.”
CYS chairperson Trevor Neville said they were hoping to find more people to help out.
“It would be great to hear from any aspiring and creative students who have a flair for writing/editing,” Trevor said.
“We are looking at the feasibility of coaching a Cabarita youth (age from 14-16) in the skills associated with writing reports/ press releases/video’s on our body board events and youth activities. The intent is to have, potentially, 1-2 young people who have an interest in this area to train them in digital media, mentor them in reporting events and get them to “cover” the local CYS events from a youth development perspective.”
Any interested people, please either speak to Simon Kelly, CYS Youth Worker on 0413 668 067 or email, answering “why we would be interested in you for this exciting role” to chairperson@cabaritayouthservice.org (applications to be submitted by 7 September).
