WILLIAMSTOWN Football Club has bolstered its list with the signing of Northern Territory Thunder footballer Brett Goodes and Northern Bullant Anton Woods.
Goodes, a former VFL team-of-the-year representative, played 111 games for North Ballarat before moving to the Thunder last year, where he finished runner-up in the club’s best and fairest count after slow start to the year because of a hip operation.
Williamstown was given the opportunity to recruit the 26-year-old after AFL affiliate Western Bulldogs employed Goodes as its new welfare officer. Anton Woods won the 2009 Morrish medal while playing for Northern Knights in the TAC Cup before playing 14 games, including the grand final, for the premiership-winning Bullants last year.
Williamstown general manager Brendan Curry said: “Brett has had extensive VFL finals experience and been part of the successful leadership model under Ray McLean at North Ballarat.
“Anton will flourish under the Liam Picken Academy and will be a valuable addition to the club. His leg speed and creativity through the midfield and up forward gives us flexibility and another goal scoring option.”
