RESIDENTS from Melton and Brimbank are being encouraged to attend a community forum this week aimed at improving people’s understanding of road trauma.
Melton Shire Council along with Victoria Police, Road Trauma Support Services, and Sunshine Magistrates’ Court, are organising a Community Road Safety Forum on 2 March from 7 to 9.30pm at the Community Hall, 232 High St, Melton.
Parents and teenage drivers are being urged to attend the meeting and Melton mayor Justin Mammarella said the aim of the event was to illustrate the impact road trauma had on its victims and the wider community.
“Too many accidents happen on our roads, council is committed to improving road safety and reducing the road toll,” said Cr Mammarella.
“I’ll be speaking from my own experience on the effects of being in an accident.”
Other speakers on the night will include chief magistrate and former coroner Noreen Toohey, road trauma support services Christine Harrison, Inspector Melton Victoria Police Mario Fiorentino, Senior Constable Allan Edwards from Victoria Police and victims of road trauma.
Cr Mammarella said the residents would learn more about road rules, road safety and the effects of road trauma, including serious injury and fatal collisions.
