Brimbank approval rises

BRIMBANK City Council’s rating continues to rise according to the results of the 2011 Annual Community Survey.
The survey released last week, was conducted by Metropolis Research and polled 800 random households across November and December last year.
Results reveal residents overall satisfaction with the council was 6.67 out of 10, almost a point up from its 5.71 result in 2009 and an improvement on its 6.46 result in 2010. The recent result is also above the Melbourne metropolitan average of 6.32.
Brimbank also had slight improvements in meeting responsibilities towards the environment, seeking community opinion and feedback, representation, lobbying and advocacy, responsiveness to local needs, maintaining trust and confidence of local community and engagement in decision-making on key issues.
Traffic management was rated as the top issue in Brimbank, while safety, policing and crime was ranked second and parks, gardens and open space rounded out the top three.
Residents in St Albans district were 9.1 per cent more satisfied than the average satisfaction rate across Brimbank, while residents in the Keilor and Deer Park districts were the least satisfied with council.
The survey also revealed that residents want more hard rubbish collections and street lighting and feel four times more unsafe in Sunshine and St Albans than residents feel in the rest of the western region and metropolitan Melbourne.
Brimbank Chair of Administrators Peter Lewinsky said holding council meetings across the five districts, listening posts and local ideas days were helping to improve community engagement.
“The results reflect community recognition of the work done by council to improve community wellbeing as well as services, facilities and infrastructure for the community,” Mr Lewinsky said.
