A POOR shooting display cost the Keilor Thunder women any chance of victory in Big V Basketball – losing to the Geelong Supercats by 17 points.
Keilor was left to rue a nightmare around goals, with the Thunder converting just 16 of its 60 field goals at a disappointing 26.7 per cent.
The news wasn’t any better from beyond the three-point line with Keilor hitting three of its 18 attempts throughout the match.
By contrast the Supercats shot at 35 per cent from the field and 30 per cent from the three-point line.
The improved accuracy allowed Geelong to control the match, with a four-point quarter-time lead growing to 17 by the final whistle.
The 69-52 loss is Keilor’s first for the year in the Division One competition.
In what was a tough day at the office, Nala Tubb worked hard for the Thunder, putting up 12 points and three rebounds.
She was well supported by Jayne-Maree Sant who finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Supercats enjoyed an even performance across the board with Kylie Morrissy (14 points) supported by six of her team-mates who had five points or more.
Sunday’s result sees Keilor drop to sixth spot on the Division One ladder with a 2-1 win/loss record for the season.
When round four gets underway this weekend, the Thunder will meet Western Suburbs rivals Werribee at the Keilor Basketball Stadium.
