JULIA Gillard’s campaign adviser Rhonda Reitveldt is among the latest Labor Party members to put up their hands for the seat of Williamstown vacated by the former Premier Steve Bracks.
Ms Reitveldt, 44, lives in Williamstown and is a mother of three.
Other candidates seeking pre-selection include Maribyrnong mayor Michael Clarke and Wyndham councillor Henry Barlow.
Former journalist and now an economics adviser in the Brumby Government Nicholas Reece, and Hobsons Bay councillor Bill Baarini are also believed to be weighing up interest.
The decision will be made jointly by local branch members, who will vote on Sunday, and the party’s public office selection committee.
It will vote the following Wednesday.
The Labor Party needs a swing of more than 25 per cent against it to lose the seat.
The Liberal Party is not running a candidate.
The Greens Party has pre-selected Maribyrnong Councillor Janet Rice.
Newport resident Wajde Assaf, who received about 1 per cent of the vote in the 2006 election, will contest the seat as an independent.
