HOBSONS Bay residents have been assured the continuation of their hard rubbish collection service.
The collapse of previous contractor DHR Waste Services left 500 rubbish piles on nature strips in September last year as Hobsons Bay City Council scrambled to engage a temporary contractor.
But from February, local contractor Four Seasons Waste will provide one hard waste collection each financial year to residents.
On average about 350 collections are carried out in the municipality each month.
Collections can be arranged through the council’s telephone booking service when the new service starts.
Hobsons Bay mayor Carl Marsich said the contract would bring a new and improved hard waste collection service for residents.
“Hobsons Bay City Council is one of very few councils across the state that provides a hard waste service where residents can have their hard waste removed with just a quick phone call, any time throughout the year, at no extra cost to them,” Cr Marsich said.
“Residents will now be able to book collections any time during the month, and will experience excellent customer service.
“The Council is committed to increasing our services as the demand for hard waste collections continues to rise.”
Seabrook Ward councillor Renee Caruana said she was pleased to see the service being made more convenient for residents.
“The service is something I pushed for in my first year on council and it’s great that the service will still be continuing,” Cr Caruana said.
“There’s an increasing reliance on the service, therefore it’s imperative that we maintain it.
“The council does not have a statutory requirement to provide a hard waste collection service for residents, but we provide it so that we can meet residents’ needs.”
