TURN 10 bags into one – it’s not magic, just a highly successful plastic bag exchange program run by Hobsons Bay City Council.
Residents can exchange 10 plastic supermarket bags for one nifty reusable bag.
Hobsons Bay mayor Leigh Hardinge said the program was a simple way to make a difference to the local environment.
“The fact that it’s as easy as bringing 10 plastic bags in to the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre or one of the library branches to exchange for a reusable bag should entice residents to participate in the program,” he said.
The program has exchanged an estimated 33,000 bags for 3300 reusable bags since being launched in April 2006.
Along with the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre and libraries, residents can exchange bags at Walker Close Community Centre at 180 Millers Rd, Altona North, today and tomorrow.
