In good company

THE Altona Ladies Probus Club was established more than two decades ago and it now needs more members to help keep it going.
Next year the club will celebrate its 25th birthday.
Club secretary Merle Phillips, who has been involved with the club for 15 years, said it was an opportunity for ladies who were retired or semi-retired to keep their minds active, expand their interest and enjoy the fellowship of friends.
“You need stimulation and need something to do once you retire,” she said.
The club meetings are held at the Altona RSL, at 10am on the fourth Thursday of the month.
“They only need to come to the door and they will be welcome,” Mrs Phillips said.
At each meeting, members are informed of upcoming club events and entertained through a program of guest speakers.
“Our aim is to have an abundance of fun, fellowship and friendship though guest speakers, outings and activities.”
Mrs Phillips said along with the inspiring and entertaining guest speakers there is a host of activities including a card group, theatre group and a number of different outings.
“There’s a good variety of everything, because you’ve got to please more than one person.”
The club is also seeking anyone with information on the Altona Ladies Probus that could be included in a special 25-year anniversary booklet.
