THE FRIENDS of Altona Libraries group is holding their biggest book sale of the year, with a range that will make you turn the page.
The group’s biggest fund-raising event of the year, called the Big Book Sale, will be held on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 October.
Friends of Altona Libraries President Margaret Broeks says the group has supported libraries in Altona both financially and where needed since 1987.
Mrs Broeks said the group held monthly book sales in a shop set up behind the Altona library, but that the Big Book Sale was their biggest fund-raising event of the year.
“We have more space to put out more books – that’s why we called it the Big Book Sale,” she said.
There will be hundreds of books for sale from a diverse range of genres from children’s, fiction and non-fiction and niche categories like travel, gardening, home crafts and more.
“It really is a bargain day and we’d be pleased to see you,” Mrs Broeks said.
“You name it, we’re sure to have it.”
She said prices were very generous, starting from 10 cents for magazines and small softback fiction, fiction books and biographies for 50 cents and non-fiction titles $1.50 unless marked otherwise.
“We aim to keep people going and get them to come back again.”
Mrs Broeks said over the years the group had supported libraries in Altona by purchasing new furniture and equipment.
It is hoped the money raised from the book sale will go toward new book shelf signs.
“We feel we can pass on the books at reasonable prices and give broader opportunities for people to read and children to have books to handle.”
“It gives you the opportunity to help fill leisure time or to pass it onto somebody you know will be interested.”
The Big Book Sale will be held at the Altona library meeting rooms on 4 October from 9.30am until 6pm and Saturday 5 from 10am to 1pm, corner of Queen and Sargood St.
