A CYCLING enthusiast from Hobsons Bay is preparing to embark on an epic journey that will take her around Tasmania.
Leah MacGibbon has mapped a course for herself that will cover approximately 1000 kilometres over an eight-day journey, riding 160 kilometres on some days.
Leah will pack her bike and gear and have her mum to accompany her on the journey, driving ahead and meeting up with each other at the end of each day.
The ladies will leave on the Spirit of Tasmania in December and land in Devonport and the start of her journey.
From here she will ride toward Cradle Mountain, the centre of Tasmania before riding west to Queenstown, back into Bronte Park and down to Hobart.
From there she will head up the east coast to Swansea, continuing to St Helens and back into the centre of Launceston before riding north and back to Devonport.
Ms MacGibbon said it had always been a personal dream to make the trip and decided now was the time to make a move.
“I have always wanted to (ride around Tasmania), however have never been able to book with other groups so I just arranged to do it on my terms.”
“I feel grateful to have the ability to walk, run, ride and do anything I want to do, so I love to do the things that make me happy and riding is it.”
She said although the ride would be a challenge, it was one she could achieve.
And although she is not riding to raise money for a cause, she will be wearing her favourite Sea Shepherd jersey to promote the work that they do.
