A splash of pink, a bit of pamper and a party like no other will bring women together to help fight against cancer.
Cairnlea resident Janev Aziz is rounding up her family and friends to help the Cancer Council fight against breast and gynaecological cancers by hosting a Girls’ Night In event at the end of this month.
Ms Aziz, who has attended many Girls’ Night In events in the past, said she wanted to contribute a little more by hosting her own event this year.
“I thought this is something I could do, on a big scale, and raise as much money as I can for charity,” Ms Aziz said.
“I decided to sell tickets to raise more money and track how many people were coming and we sold 150 tickets within three weeks”.
The Girls’ Night In fund-raiser is for women to come together, celebrate and help raise money by donating what they would usually spend on a night out to the Cancer Council’s Pink campaign.
Ms Aziz hoped to make her event not only enjoyable, but also educational.
“Originally we were hoping to raise $5000, now we’re hoping to raise $10,000, but above all we want to reach out to women who have been neglecting going to have a mammogram and encourage them to get checked,” she said.
Guests at Ms Aziz’s “Ja’Min Girls Night In” event will be treated to facials, massages, manicures and will have the chance to book in for a mammogram appointment on the night.
“All funds raised will be 100 per cent donated, and hopefully by raising money, we can help try and find a cure and support women who have been diagnosed,” Ms Aziz said.
Local businesses will donate services on the night and other businesses have donated gifts and for raffles prizes and for silent auctions.
“I’m really happy with the way people have embraced my idea and helped me along the way, friends and even strangers that I don’t even know are helping out,” Ms Aziz said.
“I’m hoping to also host a family event to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer.”
