SPOTSWOOD has welcome back Lachlan McGhie who has returned from a season in the Goulburn Valley Football League.
McGhie, who was named Mooroopna Football Club’s best and fairest this season, will be joined by Matthew Fogarty and Sam Wood, who both plan to play for the club after long absences.
Wood, who played in Spotswood’s 2009 premiership, has overcome a knee injury while Fogarty, who last played in the Woodsmen’s 2007 premiership year, took four years off while working full time and completing an accounting degree.
Chris Thompson, who signed in June, has shrugged off his injury concerns and is ready to play. He booted 58 goals from the half-forward flank for Division Two side Parkside last year.
Spotswood has also recruited 195cm key position player Ben Perry, who played for Ainslie in the NEAFL this year.
The club has lost Rohan Couch, who is moving to Cairns, Mick Lewis, who is going overseas, and Cameron Sharpe, who is returning to his former junior club Aberfeldie in the Essendon and Districts Football League.
“What we are excited about are the young guys that we’ve been developing at Spotswood,” recruitment manager Tony Walsh said.
Walsh listed this season’s under 18 captain Matson Lynch, Ahmed Souki, who played every senior game but was still eligible for the under 18s, will Overton Skinner, Abdoul Jawad, under 18 team of the year selection Luke Ryan, Mahmoud El-Hawli and Spotswood’s under 18 best and fairest Ali Ali.
