Eagles soar to third straight win

SUNSHINE has rocketed to third on the Victorian Baseball first division ladder after two wins in four games last week.
The Eagles were narrow 3-1 winners in a midweek fixture against Geelong on Thursday, before backing up on Sunday to defeat Fitzroy 2-0.
The firsts have now won three matches in a row, springing from its ninth innings come-from-behind win over competition leader Waverley in round seven.
The seconds continued their winless season falling 9-6 to Fitzroy on Sunday, and the thirds and fourths also suffered heavy defeats.
In other division one games played on the weekend, Essendon scored a brilliant 4-3 win away from home against Blackburn, Melbourne thrashed Newport 10-4 and Geelong proved too good at home for Upwey/Ferntree Gully, winning 9-4.
Waverley stayed on top with a 9-3 win over Malvern in the top-of-the-table match.
Sunshine faces another busy week on the field this week, starting with a home game against fourth-placed Blackburn on Sunday and continuing next Thursday against cellar dweller Upwey/Ferntree Gully.
