Saints struck by Lightning

VU WESTERN Lightning responded to its round 15 loss in the best possible fashion, defeating Swisse Southern Saints by 22 goals last week.
The Lightning dominated the contest from the outset, scoring frequently at one end of the court while also shutting the Saints down defensively.
“It was our best four-quarter performance of the year,” VU Western Lightning coach Matt Hills said.
“We very much played to instructions and we were very consistent with our ball movement and usage in attack.
“Any team that can keep the opposition to eight goals in the second half, we are doing a pretty good job defensively.”
The 28-26 win sees VU maintain its position in outright third spot on the VNL Championship ladder.
The Lightning has a 12-4 win/loss record for the season and trails second-placed City West Falcons by four points.
With finals just two weeks away, Hills couldn’t be happier with the timing of the win.
“We knew our last three games would be tough,” he said.
“We needed this game. More than likely we will meet Saints in finals, so for us to come out and put in such a dominant display but also to get all the ducks in a row two weeks out from finals is very heartening.
“If we can maintain that sort of form, we are going to go deep in this competition.”
In other round 16 results, City West Falcons defeated UB Ballarat Pride by 42 goals.
