Werribee's fightback

By LIAM TWOMEY

A STUNNING second half fightback allowed Werribee to secure a 29-point win against Essendon in the VFL on Saturday.
In what was a must-win match, the Tigers were beaten early by the Bombers who kicked away to a 22-point lead at the first break.
There was no letting up from the Essendon side when play resumed as the margin continued to grow at a quick pace.
Midway through the second term the lead hit 43 points, before something clicked with the Tigers’ players.
Werribee went on the offensive, kicking goals at will to eat into the big deficit.
The four-goal third term saw the Tigers trail by just 10 points at the last break while a seven goal to one final term capped off the remarkable comeback and secured the 16.13 (109) to 11.14 (80) win.
Ben Brown continued his impressive season on the Werribee forward line, booting three goals.
Brown has now kicked 17 goals for the year. Also dangerous on the Tigers forward line were Majak Daw, Ben McKinley and Jarred Moore who kicked two goals each.
Around the ground Daniel Currie, Scott Sherlock and Scott Clouston were also impressive.
For the Bombers, Scott Gumbleton was an imposing force up forward and kicked five goals while Leroy Jetta finished the match with two. Ruckman David Hille was named in the club’s best players.
The win is Werribee’s seventh for the season and sees the Tigers maintain their spot in the VFL top eight as the club marches towards finals.
When round 13 gets underway this weekend, Werribee will take on competition front runners Casey in another crucial game.
