Hotspot fix

ONE of Melton’s most notorious traffic black spots will receive funding after the State Government announced the installation of traffic signals at the Ferris Rd intersection.
Melton City Council welcomed the $1.5 million announcement made by Minister for Planning Matthew Guy as part of the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution scheme.
Outgoing Melton City Council Mayor Justin Mammarella said the funding was a fantastic outcome for the community.
“Council has strongly advocated to the State Government for this major intersection to be upgraded so it especially pleasing to see our efforts have paid off,” Mr Mammarella said.
“The Ferris Road off-ramp is an extremely busy intersection and the installation of traffic signals will greatly improve safety and ease congestion.”
The intersection, which caters for about 3200 motorists a day, has been a hotspot for speeding motorists in recent years and is commonly known at the city’s worst congestion spot.
Mr Guy said it was fundamental that the State Government use funds derived from the GAIC to manage and deliver meaningful infrastructure projects in growing, vibrant communities, like Melton.
“Money from the GAIC is being directed to priority projects from the local government areas where funds have been collected,” he said.
The council will work with VicRoads on the design stage of the project.
