TALENTED artists ‘The Michelles’ are exhibiting their work together again as part of the Hobson’s Bay City Council’s Art in Public Places project.
Sharing the same name and a passion for art, Michelle Downing and Michelle Thompson will be exhibiting their pieces at the Prince Albert Hotel this month.
Ms Thompson’s part of the exhibition will display a number of ink and graphite drawings of Spotswood and Romsey, while Ms Downing, the 2012 Amnesty International National Art Award Winner, will be showcasing a series of monotone oil portraits.
Excited for their second year exhibiting, Ms Thompson said their previous Art in Public Places project was “the first show of any magnitude” that either artist had experienced.
Ms Thompson describes Ms Downing’s work this year as “very beautiful oil portraits of those who inspire her” and her own as the desire to “capture her surroundings before it is too late and many of the old buildings are lost in the name of progress”.
The Art in Public Places project is an initiative created by Hobson’s Bay City Council that will feature 20 events this month. It has been operating since 2004 and seeks to promote artists and businesses in the Western Region through displaying the works in cafes, shops and public areas around the community.
The Michelles exhibition will be running at the Prince Albert Hotel, Douglas Parade, Williamstown from 29 March to 26 April.
