POLICE are turning to Facebook to seek community assistance after a spate of alcohol thefts from an Altona Meadows liquor store this year.
Police have posted a number of CCTV images of people they believe may be able to assist them with their enquiries and are calling on the public to help them identify the suspects.
“At this stage we’re putting the pictures of offenders for thefts like these on the Facebook and we’d like members of the community to have a look at our site,” Hobsons Bay Inspector Bill Mathers said.
“In the next couple of months we’ll be putting more and more offender’s pictures up there.
“We’re hoping that people that go into shops and petrol stations and steal realise that there is CCTV footage and that vision is going to be posted publically for people.”
It is alleged five one litre bottles of vodka/whiskey were stolen from the Altona Meadows Liquorland on 20 February, there was another theft at the same liquor shop on the 23 February where a slab of Jim Beam cans were stolen and again two days later on the 25 February where five bottles of Green Label Scotch were stolen.
As reported by Star previously, Hobsons Bay police became the first Victorian PSA to join the social networking world this year.
